Supporting the Heart of Third-p\Party Reproduction psychological evaluation : Why Coordinators Are the Backbone of the Journey (and How PECGNA Partners With You)

Behind every surrogacy agreement, egg donation cycle, sperm donation match, or intended
parent plan is a team of dedicated professionals making sure each step is done with care,
precision, and compassion. These are the third-party reproductive coordinators and staff
the people who connect the dots, solve problems before they happen, and guide everyone
involved through one of the most emotional journeys they will ever take.

At the Psychological Evaluation Center Global Network Alliance (PECGNA), we work
alongside you, and we see the extraordinary work you do. We know it’s more than just timelines
and checklists — it’s protecting emotional well-being, ensuring ethical practice, and keeping the
entire process moving smoothly. We admire your commitment, we understand the challenges you
face, and we’re here to make your job easier.

What Third-Party Reproductive Coordinators Really Do

The role of a coordinator is as complex as it is vital. Depending on your workplace — a fertility
clinic, surrogacy agency, donor program, or independent coordination service — you may be
responsible for:

  • Guiding intended parents through legal, medical, and emotional milestones.
  • Supporting gestational carriers as they prepare for and navigate pregnancy.
  • Assisting egg and sperm donors in understanding their rights, responsibilities, and emotional considerations.
  • Coordinating communication between attorneys, physicians, psychologists, and support staff.
  • Ensuring every step follows ASRM (American Society for Reproductive Medicine) guidelines and legal requirements.

It’s a role that demands expert knowledge, emotional intelligence, and extraordinary
attention to detail.

The Emotional Landscape of Third-Party Reproduction

The people you work with are often in deeply vulnerable places:

  • Intended parents may be navigating infertility, loss, or years of unsuccessful treatments.
  • Donors may be experiencing the process for the first time, balancing generosity with personal boundaries.
  • Gestational carriers may be managing the emotional aspects of carrying a child for someone else, all while maintaining their own family life.

You’re not just managing logistics — you’re holding space for hope, grief, joy, and
uncertainty
, sometimes all in the same conversation.

Why Psychological Evaluations Matter in the Process

Psychological evaluations are a critical step in ensuring the emotional readiness, resilience, and
support systems of everyone involved. According to ASRM guidelines, evaluations for third-
party reproduction help to:

  • Assess emotional preparedness for the journey ahead.
  • Identify coping strategies for potential challenges.
  • Ensure understanding of roles, expectations, and boundaries.
  • Provide a safe, neutral space for open discussion.

When done well, these evaluations protect everyone’s emotional well-being and set the
foundation for a smoother, more positive experience.
