What Happens After an ADHD Diagnosis? Your Rights, Accommodations, and How to Get Them

What Does an ADHD Diagnosis Mean in 2025?

An ADHD diagnosis doesn’t just explain years of struggle — it unlocks legally protected support that can transform your life. At PECGNA, we specialize in helping students and adults access accommodations in school, standardized testing, and the workplace.

If you’ve ever wondered whether your chronic forgetfulness, focus issues, or executive dysfunction were signs of something deeper, now is the time to find out.

Your Legal Rights: What Laws Protect You?

After a clinical diagnosis of ADHD, you may qualify for accommodations under federal law:

  • Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act – For students in K–12 and college
  • Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) – For students with more severe symptoms requiring special education
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) – For protections in the workplace and public settings

These laws entitle you to “reasonable accommodations” once you’ve been diagnosed by a qualified professional and have supporting documentation.

Accommodations in School: Leveling the Playing Field

With the right paperwork, schools and universities must provide accommodations like:

  • Extended time on exams
  • Quiet testing environments
  • Modified homework deadlines
  • Use of organizational tools or note-taking apps
  • Modified seating or class structure

A formal ADHD evaluation can lead to a 504 Plan or IEP (Individualized Education Program) — both of which ensure consistent support throughout your academic career.

Accommodations for High-Stakes Exams (MCAT, LSAT, GRE, USMLE)

Testing organizations are legally required to offer accommodations for ADHD if your documentation meets their standards. That’s where PECGNA comes in.

We help applicants apply for:

  • 50% or 100% extra time
  • Breaks between sections
  • Private testing rooms
  • Assistive technology approval

We work directly with forms from:

Our reports follow strict guidelines accepted by these boards.

Workplace Accommodations Under the ADA

Adults with ADHD are protected under the ADA. You may be entitled to:

  • Extended deadlines
  • Modified schedules
  • Remote or hybrid work options
  • Reduced-distraction workspaces
  • Use of project-management tools

With PECGNA, you’ll receive documentation that supports your HR request and protects your legal rights.

How to Apply for ADHD Accommodations

At PECGNA, we guide every client step-by-step through the accommodation process. Here’s how it typically works:

🧾 1. Get an Evaluation

Begin with a comprehensive psychological assessment. PECGNA provides DSM-5-aligned ADHD evaluations via telehealth, accepted by schools, testing boards, and employers nationwide.

📑 2. Receive a Formal Report

Our reports are designed to meet the documentation criteria of schools, ADA guidelines, and licensing boards. We can also complete school-specific or testing-specific forms upon request.

📨 3. Submit to the Appropriate Organization

  • For schools: Submit the report to your school’s 504/IEP coordinator or disability services office.
  • For tests: Submit the documentation packet to MCAT, GRE, LSAT, USMLE, etc., following their online or email process.
  • For work: Share the report with your Human Resources or ADA accommodations team.

💬 4. Follow Up with Confidence

We remain available for follow-up forms, clarifications, and direct provider-to-provider contact as needed to support approval.

Our evaluations are often used to:

  • Apply for standardized testing accommodations
  • Establish or update 504 Plans and IEPs
  • Submit ADA requests to employers

Why Diagnosis Alone Isn’t Enough

Many people get diagnosed but never get support because their reports are vague or incomplete. At PECGNA, we:

  • Use DSM-5-aligned clinical tools
  • Provide detailed reports with legal wording
  • Complete forms for exam boards and HR teams
  • Offer multilingual, culturally competent care

We don’t just assess — we advocate for you.
